Settlement agreements (formerly known as compromise agreements) are a great way of ending your employment relationship with dignity. They enable both sides to move on by agreeing matters amicably between them.  This will usually involve the employer paying a sum of money to the employee in return for the employee's agreement not to pursue litigation in the employment tribunal.  They may also include other clauses such as agreeing to keep the terms of the agreement private and agreeing not to speak negatively of the other party.  Commonly they include an agreed reference to help the employee find another job.
